![]() Personally I would have preferred if the rifle had never been sporterized. It also explains why my rifle has no importers stamp, they were not required until 1968, and crescent firearms had stopped selling carcanos by that point. In fact the suprema was what Oswald initially ordered, but they had sold out so they sent him a diffrent model instead. In fact Kliens sporting goods, the company that sold Oswald his Carcano, bought there rifles from crescent firearms. They called this the "Carcano Carbina Suprema" and it was sold in gunshops and magazine catalogs across the country. They also turned down the bolt so that it would resemble a Kar98k. They did this so that it would comply with a ATF ruling requiring imported rifles be "suitable for sporting purposes". They contracted with a Italian company, called Riva, to take all the M91 long rifle variants they had and cut the stock and barrel. Back in the early 1960s there was a company called crescent firearms that was importing a large ammount of Carcanos into the United State's that they had bought directly from the Italian government. ![]() Not necessarily, I've done some research and found out who originally sporterized it. ![]()
